ABC News to Train College Students
When classes start this fall, ABC plans to open a multimedia news bureau at five of the top U.S. journalism schools to train and mentor students in news production. The five participating universities ABC News has entered into a partnership with are Arizona State University, Syracuse University, the University of Florida, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Texas.
“We're thrilled to be working with ABC News on this exciting and innovative program,” ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism Dean Christopher Callahan said in a statement. “The ABC News program is truly a win-win proposition –- the student journalists will enjoy unparalleled opportunities by working with one of the world's leading news organizations, and ABC will receive smart, original content from some of the nation's great young journalists.”
Each campus will allow students the chance to produce content for ABC News' digital and broadcast platforms, among them “Good Morning America,” “World News with Charles Gibson,” and “Nightline.” Each campus bureau will be composed of a team of paid student staffers and a bureau chief.
